While I don’t have fancy silverware to clean yet, I do have quite a bit of silver jewelry that has tarnished over the years. When I saw this pin about cleaning your silver without any work, I knew I had to give it a try.
a glass baking dish
aluminum foil big enough to line the baking dish
steaming hot water to fill the foil lined baking dish
1. Line your baking dish with aluminum foil. Fill it with steaming hot water.
2. Add 2-3 teaspoon of salt and 2-3 teaspoons of baking soda. Stir to dissolve the salt.
3. Add your silver to the solution. You want them to be touching each other and touching the foil. Let them sit in the solution for 5 minutes.
4. Remove your pieces from the solution, rinse, and dry.
The left is before and after is on the right. I had a lot of small pieces, so it’s a little harder to see the results. It definitely works though. The post did warn that you shouldn’t use the solution on pieces that have gems. It also isn’t recommended for silver plated items since it can damage the material beneath the silver.
