Day 211 – How to Refill a Swiffer Wet Jet

{5 Comments}

I enjoy my Swiffer Wet Jet, but I don’t enjoy being tied to their liquid cleaning solution. With a little man and a dog running around, I have been sticking to my steam mop recently. Then, I saw this glorious pin. An easy way to refill the Swiffer Wet Jet bottles myself? Yes, please!

Just bring a pot of water to a boil, then hold the tip of the empty bottle in the water for 10 seconds. Make sure the entire cap is submerged. After you pull it out of the water, twist the cap off using a towel. It should twist right off. Now you can fill it with your own cleaning solution! The cap twists right back on, but make sure it’s tight. I was worried the seal wouldn’t quite be the same and there could be some leakage, but that wasn’t the case at all. Sweet!

  1. Wow! I would have saved a lot of money in college had I known this one. Great to know for the future though.

  2. This is great! Thanks for the tip.

  3. I hated my swiffer because it left dirty brown spots in the little crevices and the floor never really looked clean. And the bottles and pads were expensive. I replaced it with a similar product with refillable bottles and microfiber pads. The microfiber does a far better cleaning job. I keep a mesh bag hanging in the laundry room for the dirty microfiber pads and cloths, and toss it in the washer when I need to, so it’s every bit as easy.

  4. Go out and buy a Libman freedom mop. Not only is the cleaning fluid chamber removable and refillable, the pads are also machine washable. It is $20 in most stores, but I find without buy disposable pads and fluid, it pays for itself quickly 🙂
