Day 210 – Preserving Bananas

{2 Comments}

We go through bananas like crazy in this house, so I usually don’t need to worry about making them last longer. I bought a large bunch the other day though and they were already ripe, so I decided to give this one a try. If you wrap plastic wrap around the tops of bananas, they are supposed to last longer.

This seems to be working, but it’s pretty annoying to have to unwrap and rewrap the bananas each time you want one. You can just separate all the bananas as soon as you get home for the same effect. Separating them is way easier in my opinion.

  1. I forget where i found the tip but supposedly if you break apart all the bananas once you get them home they last longer. Not sure if it works b/c we usually go through bananas pretty quick too, or just try to buy only as many as we can eat before buying new ones.

  2. I’ve never tried the wrap on the bananas, but i did separate them once & they ripened much faster than usual. We go through bananas pretty quickly here too. I also learned the hard way that they rot almost overnight in the fridge.
