I am definitely a popcorn lover. I can eat an entire bag by myself with no problem. Microwave popcorn is so bad for you though.
“A report from the FDA indicates that a chemical coating used in microwave popcorn bags breaks down when heated into a substance called perfluorooctanoic (PFOA). The Environmental Protection Agency has identified PFOA as a “likely carcinogen.” Another study has found an acid that can be extracted from the chemical causes cancer in animals and is “likely to cause cancer in humans.” – Care 2 Make a Difference

1. Add a 1/2 cup scoop of popcorn kernels to your brown paper bag.
2. Fold the bag over twice. Don’t use staples to secure the bag — this might spark in your microwave.
3. Put the popcorn bag into your microwave. I set mine for 3 minutes on high. Stop the microwave when the popping slows to one to two pops per second.
Be careful! Mine tipped over towards the end and a kernel popped through the bottom of the bag. At least it popped into the microwave and not at my face.

Adding butter and salt was the way to go for me, but there are lots of different options out there. Check out the original pin below for some great seasoning ideas!

The bag totally pooped a popcorn.
Hahaha!
Um, I had no idea popcorn was bad for you. I’ll need to try this!
I’m so glad I could enlighten you.
What a great idea! My mom cautioned though that the bag can sometimes catch on fire, so you need to stick around and watch it just in case.
Oh wow! Thanks for the warning!
Awesome!!! You pop . . . uh, I mean rock. I saw this pin but hadn’t gotten around to trying it because I said, NO WAY could popping popcorn in the microwave be so easy. How is it we never heard about this before?
Pinterest, gotta love it. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your blog. It’s so fun!!! And let me tell you, girl, I could use a little fun!!!!
Blessings,
Alyson
Thanks, Alyson!
I know, I couldn’t believe that I had never heard of this trick before either. What would our lives be like without Pinterest?!
Yep, I do this! It works great! Just another reason to say “paper, not plastic!” at the grocery store!
I do this all the time, try adding a couple teaspoons of Olive Oil before pouring the kernals in!
I have been wondering if that works, Tamara! The olive oil doesn’t make the bag too soggy?
